Introduction to Election (Muhurt) branch of Vedic astrology

... V K Shridhar

We all know that fundamental of Hindu / Vedic philosophy is “Karma”. This has the best dilated in “Bhagvad Geeta”, straight from the mouth of the Lord Krishna. Without input (Karmas) there can be no output (fructification). Fundamentally, Vedic / Indian / Hindu astrology which has emanated from spiritualism, had two basic functions viz, propitiation (Yagya, Home, Tapa, Daana, Sanana, Japa, Mantras, Yantras, wearing gems, medicinal usage etc.) and Muhurt. Other branches of Vedic astrology were subsequently developed to meet the requirements of the masses from time to time. Predictive usage (Hora branch) was a subsequent development. Therefore Muhurt branch of astrology is held as the best branch of Vedic astrology.

Muhurt has emanated from Vedas, Shaastras, Puraanas, Shrutis, Smritis, scriptures, and other canonical, religious & mythological holy books. Perhaps there is no Hindu religious granth where Muhurt has not been referred to. “Vasist Samhita” is the oldest known treatise on Muhurt blessed to us many millenniums before Christ.

Western electional astrology is of recent origin & is still under infant stage using arbitrarily derived rules from predictive & horary astrology. Rules of Indian/ Vedic electional are different from those of Horary astrology; though the general principles of astrology are the same.

Muhurt is the most useful part of the astrology, & its other branches merely play a (minor) supporting role to it. No other branch of the existing knowledge guides an aspirant about the most opportune time to initiate an activity enabling him achieve the highest expected success. Success in a venture depends upon expertise & knowledge of the aspirant doer in the related activity and the time elected for initiation of the activity. Exponents have opined that one should not live in a city where there is no (competent) astrologer.

Muhurt covers all the life activities right from conception to performing of the last rites after death. It also covers some activities on which there is no human control; like puberty & teething; with a view to take precautionary measures in addition to delineating their effects. Like horoscopy deals with only one radical chart at the birth time, Muhurt deals with figures of the Heaven at each activity conducted by the doer after his birth. Wise men who believe in human effort (Purushartha) & intent to endeavour for the righteous effort at right time, take the benefit of the knowledge blessed by our Sages. The guidance provided by this branch of knowledge is fundamental, & when effectively used along with the sound professional knowledge related to the activity, degree of success & Siddhi is almost certainly assured.

Exponents of Hindu Muhurt astrology have gifted us numerous treatises covering almost all the life activities. They have given ample guidance on specific Muhurtas as well as general principles of Muhurtas, to cover activities related to future eras. In the past we had specialized & expert astrologers in every branch of astrology; not like the present-day astrologers who dare to render guidance on every field of astrology. Readers may be aware that except Acharya Vraha Mihir there has not been any astrologer in the past who has contributed in more than one single branch of astrology: then how the modern-day astrologers feel them selves competent to advise in more than one field of astrology. This is the most dreaded topic for discussion with professional astrologers.

Compliance of Muhurt:

For achieving high degree of success in a venture / activity, in addition to Muhurt, doer shall have to purify his body & mind; purify environments by performing Havan and or by incantation of Mantras; watch that no bad omen is seen at the time of initiation; needy people in the surroundings are made happy by donations; proper Swar (inhalation & exhalation by the prescribed nostril) is flowing. Finally the mind of the doer must agree to initiate the activity.

Aspirants may kindly note that there is no perfect Muhurt. Expert Astrologer is a mean to cull out an auspicious time for an event for an aspirant. Further auspicious Muhurt even if deciphered can be fully & completely complied by those who have done Punya Karmas. However, since Karmas which can be controlled by the aspirants, selection of an auspicious Muhurt certainly helps in successful fruition of the desires.

Muhurt is the most useful knowledge blessed to us by our sages, otherwise it would not have passed test of time for the last so may millenniums. No other science or the knowledge, thus far known, has the capability to let you know the best time to initiate an activity.

Therefore only wise men shall elect Muhurt for best possible success & fruition of their desires.

Precise Election - through Vedic / Indian electional astrology

... by V K Shridhar

Election (Muhurt) has emanated from Vedas, Shaastras, Puraanas, Shrutis, Smritis, scriptures, and other canonical, religious & mythological holy books. It has withstood test of time for the last over two millenniums. Some of the students of electional astrology usually gets baffled when they find as to why 10.30 am has been selected to start an activity (say in taking oath by a minister), and why not 10.31 am. Logic of the electional astrologer may be known to him only, but here some of the important factors considered in selecting a precise Muhurt (election) have been detailed for the pleasure of electional astrologers.

Indeed, to cull out such a precise election is expertise of the specialist electional astrologers. Vedic astrology has been blessed by our sages through numerous electional treatises, laying down extensive rules & guidance: making this branch of Vedic astrology as the most useful & the most effective branch, for the benefit of humanity. To arrive at precise (Sukshama) election for a specific activity, following main factors are considered. It is difficult to dilate all the factors in a blog of this nature.

Horoscope (nativity) of the aspirant, his name, especially his birth ascendant, lunar sign (the radical Moon sign), lunar asterism, his status (social status, age, religion, caste), place where activity is to be performed, social & religious considerations; form the basis of an election.

Availability of universal purified time length, Panchang Shuddhi [suitable availability of fundamental five elements of Hindu ephemeris – day, asterism, half lunar day (Tithi), Karan & Yoga], Muhurt Yogas, selection of purified time (year, month, solstice, Lunar half, Hora).

Presence of specific “Muhurt Yogas” (specific combinations of weekday, asterism, lunar day, asterism transited by the Sun etc. – distinct from “Muhurt Yogas”) is hallmark of Hindu electional astrology. Combinations of the specific elements of Hindu ephemeris prescribed for the specific elections fortify an election. Exhaustive guidance has been given by exponents for initiation suitable works during currency of each of the said five elements of the Panchang.

Bright & luminous Moon lays foundations of an election. No good election is thought possible without detailed consideration of the Moon & asterism transited by her: as other planets gets strength from the Moon. The Moon is mind & the Sun is soul of the Muhurt.

Absence of universal malefic / prohibited time like – Gandants (junctional points), eclipses, solar ingresses into a new sign, Vishti Karan, Mahapaatas, Latta-Paata-Baana- Kartari: Dash Doshas, malefic Yogas, blind / deaf signs-months-Tithis, combustion of Jupiter & Venus, etc. etc.), malefic / poisonous Yogas (combination of astrological elements): the list is very long to mention here all these factors. Absence of malefic time for the doer – adverse transit of the Moon & radical significator of the event, adverse asterisms; adverse Ghaata (killer) ascendant, Tithi, weekday, part of the weekday, Month, Yoga, Karan etc. In addition current adverse Dasha / Anter Dasha (major / minor periods as per Hindu progression) as per various modes of reckoning is to be avoided.

Favourable transits of planets for the native selected through various systems – like Gochar, Ashtakvarga, Vaam Vedha, Karam Vedha, auspicious asterism, Ansha Chakra, Sarvaobhadra Chakra etc., favourable Dasha / Anter Dasha (major / minor periods as per Hindu progression), favourable transit of radical & event significators.

Extensive rules have been laid down to fortify & purify the election chart & election ascendant. Divisional charts, especially the divisional chart related to the event, requires examination & fortification. Strength of the planets is not only examined in the electional chart but also in the divisional charts (Shadvargas). Aspects of the planets their strength, strength of the election ascendant as well as event significator is examined by well established mode prescribed in Vedic astrology.

Specific styles of Muhurtas (elections) like ''Do Ghati Muhurt, Shivprokat Muhurt, Chaughadia Muhurt & Brihaspati Muhurtas'' are also in vogue. Even when universally auspicious Muhurtas like “Abhijit Muhurt” & “Sade-Teen Muhurt” are eulogized by the exponents, but their application to the individual in respect of specific election is ingenuity of the electional astrologer.

No election is feasible unless antidotes to the maleficence are available & the election is balanced by the specialist’s skill. He has to examine compliance to the laid down logics, purification of divisional charts; arriving at the precise moment to start the event for the best benefits of the aspirants explaining him the limitations & constraints, as perceived by him. The unsullied election – without any maleficence is the best but is rarely available. Next middling election, having more beneficence & less maleficence is at times used by specialist astrologer through his expertise after balancing the election & examining the antidotes. The election having lesser beneficence is used in emergency. Even Dushta (malefic) Muhurt is elected in case of emergency, but with careful selection of antidotes.

Some opine that “Sukshama elements” of the Panchang, other opine purification of divisional charts, some other opine specific degrees of election ascendant & the Moon / Nakshatra; hold the key in arriving at Sukshama election. Suitable propitiations, if required, may also be examined. Presence of favourable omens, absence of portents, proper Swar (mode of breathing), and incantation of Mantras & Vedic hymns, purified mind & body of the doer enhances certainty of success in the election.

AKSHAYA TRITIYA - MYTH & TRUTH

a discussion by author of “Hindu Electional Astrology

Every year when Akshaya Tritiya approaches, web sites and blogs are full to exploit the masses, since the latter have no direct accesses to the original dictums on Muhurt (election). More so by some Indian TV channels, of late, have been inducing fears in public minds whenever there is any unusual planetary combination or astronomical phenomenon. Some of their remedial measures were only known to them, thusfar.

Lord Vishnu is tutelary lord of this Tithi. According to Hindu mythology, this day is associated with pooja of Lord Vishnu, Tithi prevailing at the start of Treta Yuga (also called as Yugadi Tithi), Parshuram Jayati (incarnation of Lord Vishnu), Kuber Lakshami Pooja, pooja of Goddess Tulsi, the day Sage Vyasa began the composition of Mahabharata, Sudama’s visit to Lord Krishna in Dwarka, Balaram Jayanti….

In electional astrology, life activities are broadly divided in two categories, viz, spiritual / religious & worldly / materialistic activities. Akshaya Tritiya being one of the most powerful election (covered under Sade Teen Muhurt) according to Hindu electional astrology. – which covers beneficial elections in respect of religious activities; and not the latter. Punya Karmas (meritorious deeds) performed on the said Tithi yields manifolds beneficial effects.

This year third Tithi of Vaishakha (Shuddha) lunar month starts at 04.10 IST on 16th May, 2010 & ends at 02.31 IST on 17th May, 2010. It coincides with Mrigshira nakshatra starting from 01.18 IST on 16th, ending at 00.25 on 17th May. Currency period of Monday (from local Sunrise to local Sunset period) & Mrigshira results in “Sarvarth Siddha Yoga’, ‘Amrit Yoga’ & ‘Amrit Siddha’ Yogas – very beneficial & powerful Muhurt Yogas. Concurrency of adverse “Vidal Yoga’ does not diminish beneficial effects of the earlier said Yogas. Further, From 14th April to 14th May, 2010 Adhik / Mala Vaishakha Maas; by both Shukladi or Krishnadi mode of reckoning lunar months; shall be over before the forthcoming Akshaya Tritiya. Thus according to Hindu electional astrology, the forthcoming Akshaya Tritiya is very auspicious Tithi. The Sun & the Moon are not brightest during the current Tithi. Because of Mal Vaishakha Maas, the Sun & the Moon are in Taurus this time. Deep exaltation of the both planets is not astrological feasible on this Tithi. On certain Akshaya Tritiya; either of them in deep exaltation & other in exaltation sign with concurrency of beneficial Muhurt Yogas, would be a dream position for electional astrologers. Perhaps on such planetary position composition of Mahabharat was initiated by the sage Vaid Vyasa.

But there is a caution: no auspicious time is beneficial for all the persons for initiating all types of life activities. Muhurt is the most beneficial branch of Vedic/Hindu astrology, and only specialized in the field may be able to guide the individuals for specific Muhurt.

Certainly the forthcoming Tithi is very very beneficial for Punya Karmas. Donations, Poojas, Jap, Tap, Snaan, Havan, Homas etc shall, yield many fold beneficial effects. During currency of Yugadi and Manvadi Tithis prohibited activities are: Upnayana, marriage, ending of fast, house construction & entering thereof, travailing and plantation. In Muhurt treatises purchase of gold in not recommended during Akshaya Tritiya, so do not follow blindly. For Muhurt of worldly activities – do consult astrologer specialized in electional astrology.

NEED FOR SPECIALIST ASTROLOGERS

In March, 2006, a discussion was initiated on the subject in wikipedia, but there was no response. For the benefit of users of astrology & for professional astrologers the debate is initiated again her. The matter is reproduced here :

Need for specialist astrologers

Now a days we find that most of astrologers worldwide intend to show that they are specialist in different branches of astrology, & also guide the aspirants. The debate is whether their claims can have some basis.

Vedic astrology has the richest literature covered in over 400,000 aphorisms, gifted by the Sages & Acharyas in the last over 5 millenniums. It has three main branches viz, astronomy (Siddhanta), Samhitas (dealing with mundane, meteorology, omens & portents, constructional matters, electional astrology etc.) & Predictive (Hora) astrology. The predictive astrology has various branches such as Horoscopy (Jaataki), Electional (Muhurt) astrology, Annual (Tajik) horoscopy, Horary (Prashna) astrology, Female (Streejaataki) horoscopy, Reconstructional (Nashtajaatakam) astrology, Jaimini Sutras (a special system of prediction), Astro - Palmistry (Graha- Samudriki), Remedial astrology etc. etc. But none of the exponents blessed us with treatises on more than one subject. The only except is the great Acharya Varaha Mihir – who gifted us excellent treatises on the three said branches.

Some of the exponents have opined that they have learnt this subject not only in this birth but is the outcome of their Karmas & study in their last births also. It is impossible for human being to learn & master one branch of this futurity science in one birth.

When none on the Hindu exponents have dared to touch more than one subject of Hindu astrology, it is now thought possible by modern astrologers to claim specialization in more than one branch of astrology.

Further when we have now specialist in the field of each branch of the knowledge like engineering, science, medicine, law, economics … ; how come that we have not felt the need for specialist astrologers in specific branch of astrology, & have been accepting astrologers capable to guide aspirants in more than one of its branches.

To cite an example, one may find astrologers generally engaged in predictive astrology; venturing to render guidance in electional branch, but when he would be asked as to how many books he has read on the subject or rather he possesses in his library; the answer shall be obvious.

One may excuse an astrologer claiming specialization in “Remedial Astrology” if the results do not come, consoling oneself that it may be effect of his Karmas in this & last birth. But how come you can excuse an astrologer who has rendered guidance to an aspirant, who does not have even a single book on electional astrology in his library.

We all understand limitations of knowledge in any field, but that does not authorize one to claim master of different fields, especially in astrology.
--shridharvk , 2, March 2006 (UTC)

It is not surprising that there are no comments / discussions on this topic for the last one month. Astrologers shun, rather fear to talk on this topic for the reasons best known to them.
I invite astrologers to have frank discussion on this topic.

Bhadra – no fear of celebrating Raksha Bandhan

Bhadra – no fear of celebrating Raksha Bandhan

Today in a famous Indian news channel there was a programme at 16.00 IST that “Raksha Bandhan” – festival celebrated by sisters & brothers for mutual welfare etc.,. It was advised that
a) During Bhadra (Vishti Karan) prevailing from 01.00 IST to 17.13 IST, the said festival should not be celebrated.
b) However during mid-day time (from 12.13 to 12.51 IST), it can be celebrated.
c) Saroop Nakha / Ravan & Draupadi/ lord Krisha (sisters & bothers) who celebrated this festival during currency of Bhadra had faced the wrath, known to all of us.

Apparently the purpose of the telecast was advisory. But this shall certainly lead to immense difficulties to the sisters who go to their brothers’ place for celebrating the festival. Due to propagation of this blind faith a fear psychosis shall be inducted in them, in case they do not adhere to the advice. More so by citing the examples from our sacred books, a fear has been generated among the sisters & brother becomes many folds.

Social customs & religious dictums over-rule the logics. But we must examine the logic part of the cautions telecasted as above.

First of all the Vishti Karan (Bhadra) starts at 03.59 IST (not from 01.00 IST) & ends at 17.12 IST. Bhadra, having duration half of a Tithi; occurs 8 times in a Lunar month. It occurs on first half of full Moon day (15th Tithi) on all the Lunar months. Therefore on every festivals of “Raksha Bandhan” – Bhadra prevails during its first half of the 15th Tithi (Full Moon day).

I am not aware the text from which the acharya has culled the references that Saroop Nakha / Ravan & Draupadi/ lord Krishna had suffered in their lives ONLY due the fact that had once celebrated the festival during currency of Bhadra. In my opinion a mere mistake like this in nature in performing a ceremony like “Raksha Bandhan”, can not bring such a bad luck as it was propagated to support the argument advising refraining celebrations during Bhadra. It is mere exaggerations & illogical.

I am sure that all of us must have celebrated the festival many times during currency of Bhadra. But all of us have not met the adverse fate as deadened in the cited examples.

It was recommended that from 12.13 to 12.51 IST, the festival can be celebrated, being Madhyanha (mid-day). Detailed logic was not given, but it appears that it relates Abhijit Muhurt; which prevails 24 minutes before & after local mid-day (for 12 hours daytime length).

Mid-day is a local phenomenon, and in the telecast the time was to be complied all over the country. In Delhi mid-day shall be at 12.27 IST, and day length is 13h 26m. At Delhi Abhijit Muhurt starts at 12.00 IST and ends at 12.54 IST on august 5, 2009. It is a local phenomenon. It appears that there has been some error in calculations. It was not told as to which anti dote he was referring to.

During the discussion it was mentioned that Bhadra is said to be daughter of the Sun. Lot many Muhurt treatises have references of Bhadra Devi mentioning that she was born from the body of Lord Shiva to kill Daityas. Bhadra has an ass face, three legs, seven arms, black in colour, long tail, fire emanating from her mouth, eyes like cowrie (cyprcea moneta) and emanates sound like thundering of clouds. After her birth she smeared her body with fire ash, wore clothes made from shrouds & rode on dead bodies in funeral / burial place. After developing a huge body, fierily attacked like a thunder on the army of the Daityas. After massacring the Daityas she resided in the ear of the Lord Shiva & decorated the same. Thus the pleased Devatas established the Bhadra Devi at the end of the movable Karanas.

With the blessing of the Lord Shiva she engulfs / eats all the efforts made in Manglik works conducted during the Vishti Karan with her fire like tongue. Thus Manglik works like marriage, Upanayana and the like auspicious works, travel, entering into a house must be shunned without fail during Vishti Karan.

Prescribed works in Bhadra are: arresting, tying, administering poison, igniting fire, use of weapon, tearing or cutting an object, inflicting sorrow, all type of works related to camel, horse, & buffalo; birth of a horse & donkey, cooking, worshipping of lord Shiva & Parvati, & fort also.

Even when Bhadra is highly inauspicious, Acharya Kalidas (author of Jyotirvidabhranam- an authoritative treatise on Muhurt) has advised that worshipping during Parvati Ashtami (Hartalika), worshipping of Lord Shiva & Parvati, worshipping of one’s deity, water storage (dam), starting of Yagya, conducting Yagya, Holika, Shravani Karam, Jaatkaram Samskar, barter in trade, pious work & giving an item to a king always yield good results.

But there are lot many antidotes and exceptions to initiate other / important life activities during currency of Bhadra; described as below:

a) When Bhadra resides in heaven or Hades (like it shall be on August 5, 2009 – in Capricorn sign) essential works can be conducted.
b) The Bhadra Dosha is considered at all places. However in Bengal, Nepal & Mithila, the Bhadra Dosha is only considered during Shravana & Falguni (Holi festival).
c) Bhadra is not malefic after mid-day (Muhurt Ganpati – 6/25)
d) Bhadra head in Krishan Paksha & tail in Shukla Paksha can be used. Nominal duration of tail part of Bhadra is 72 minutes.

It is accepted that during currency of Bhadra auspicious life activities are not performed and that if Muhurt is to be elected during its period then, must be selected by in case of urgency by expert professional astrologer.

Let us understand difference between Muhurt & celebration of an annual festival. Muhurt is elected for life time activities performed generally once. For celebration of annual festival like “Raksha Bandhan”, such fears must not be generated among the masses. It may not be out of the context to mention that our one Chief Minister had taken oath during the currency of Bhadra & very successfully completed the full tenure, and was also again re-elected.

There is no dictum in Muhurt (election) treatises that “Raksha Bandhan” should not be celebrated during Bhadra. Under the ensuing Bhadra on “Raksha Bandhan” following is recommended:

a) The festival may be celebrated during currency of 15th Tithi (from 03.59 IST on August 5, 2009 to 06.25 IST on August 6, 2009); by those who have not been complying any Muhurt for “Raksha Bandhan” so far.

b) Those who are interested in selection of an auspicious time may follow:

i) Bhadra tail period starts at 11.50 IST & ends at 13.51 IST. Thereafter Bhadra’s head period starts and ends at 16.05 IST. Tail period can be used.
ii) It can well be performed after local Mid-day.
iii) It can well be performed during Abhijin Muhurt, For calculating Abhijin Muhurt log on to
http://www.indiadivine.org/audarya/vedic-astrology-jyotisha/448716-abhijit-muhurt-powerful-muhurt.html
iv) Tail period coinciding with Abhijin Muhurt can very well be used, more so as the Moon is simultaneously transiting Capricorn – without any fear. This shall be an auspicious Muhurt.

Inauspicious Time of oath by the next U S President -- Hindu Electional Astrology

INAUSPICIOUS TIME OF OATH BY THE NEXT U S PRESIDENT – a debate

The next US President shall take oath on 20th January, 2009 – which is observed as inauspicious time as per Vedic / Indian system of electional (Muhurt) astrology. Discussion herein is based on Indian system (Nirayana - Sidereal system) of astrology.

The oath is generally taken around mid-day on 20th January when according to Indian system of astrology, Aries 21º shall be rising, with Moon in 8th house (6º 15´ - Scorpio, Anuradha asterism). While Jupiter (9º 33´ – combust), Mercury ( 6º 38 – is combust & retrograde) and Rahu are with the Sun ( 6º 49´) are in the 10th house. Mars lord of ascendant and 8th is in 9th house. There is exchange between 5th lord Sun and 10th lord Saturn, while the latter is in 5th house. Venus is in 11th house. Exact time of oath taking and the astro details of the oath taker are not known, therefore divisional charts and beneficence of the time for the individual are not discussed in this blog.

However it is essential , rather fundamental, that the election time is universally auspicious with co-occurrence of Muhurt Yogas (special electional combinations) and Panchanga Shuddhi (purified ephemeris time); in addition to beneficial time in respect of transits of planets & Dasha ( Hindu progressions), to the individual taking oath. The day is Tuesday – considered malefic for taking oath / coronation; and certainly before mid-day. The 10th Tithi, is beneficial being Poorna, but the Moon is waning (Dark Half - Krishan Paksha), and thus weak. Further Dark Half ( Krishan Paksha) in general not augurs expansions / developements. Anuradha asterism, in general, is held as beneficial for oath ceremony but the Tara Bala (stellar strength) & favourable transit for the individual is to be examined with respect to the person taking oath. Vishti Karan (Bhadra) is universally held as the most inauspicious for such ceremonies; and it gets further ferocious with concurrence of Tuesday- shall certain to have adverse effects. Presence of inauspicious "Shula Yoga" further adds to inauspiciousness. Thus four out the five elements of Hindu Panchanga (ephemeris) four are not favourable.

There is no beneficial Yoga present on 20th January, 2009 for auguring the said time as universally auspicious. Combination of 10th Tithi and Tuesday makes “Karkacha Yoga” – an adverse Yoga. Concurrence of Tuesday and Anuradha asterism makes “Kuyoga held as malefic. The Moon shall be in 24th asterism from that of the transiting Sun, causing “Upgraha Dosha – adverse for especially for marriage, travel and house related elections. Thus there is no assistance from any Special Muhurt Yogas, considered essential for a beneficial election.

In the election chart, the Moon is in 8th house – held as highly prohibited for initiating any beneficial activity. It causes adverse instability in the mind of the doer. Thought its debilitation effects in 8th house gets cancelled/ nullified to some extent, but shall have adverse effects on homes / houses, transport system and public in general of the country, with regards to their damage / destruction / losses. Retrograde & combust Mercury may cause severe adverse effects on communication systems, army, Government employees and servants. As per old Western school of thought in astrology, the Mercury being Cazimi, shall have beneficial effects. But Most of the modern followers do not agree with this old thought. Difference in their longitude is 0º 11´ 38˝, but some savior is that their declinations are different. Retrograde planet especially Mercury is held by Western astrologers as certainly unfavourable in important elections. Lord of luck (9th house lord) Jupiter, is combust and in the same Navamsha with the Sun; being functional malefic for Aries ascendant, may cause instability & disrepute to the ruler. Retrograde Saturn may breed some new unusual and unpleasant steps in diplomacy & governance; some of which shall be withdrawn at latter stages. Income, trade, wealth of the country shall certainly expand and flourish. Thus election chart does not augurs towards beneficence.

The detailed analysis can only be made after knowing the exact time of the taking oath; but the above effects can be mitigated to some lessor extent. From 12 hrs 0 min to 12 hrs 38 min ( 18h 0 m to 18 h 39 m GMT) Abhijin Muhurt prevails, which has immense power to reduce / annihilate adverse effects – as per Vedic astrology. Further Mars as lord of the ascendant in 9th house is another beneficial aspect in the election chart, but its sign lord Jupiter being cobust shall take away most of its beneficence. But in general the said time is not observed as auspicious for taking oath by the head of state of the most powerful country.
